Our Mission

Welcome to BarkSide Rescue!

BarkSide Rescue is a 501(c)(3) based in Reno, Nevada. Our mission is to provide short-term transitional housing for dogs whose owners of our community are temporarily unable to care for them. This includes individuals seeking medical or physical treatment, transitioning into temporary housing that does not allow pets, or facing other short-term crises. By offering this support, we aim to prevent dogs from entering local shelters and prioritize reunification with their original owners whenever possible. When reunification is not possible, we will responsibly place dogs for adoption.

During the dog’s time in our care, they will receive spay/neuter services, updated vaccinations, microchipping, and basic training under multi-award-winning canine trainer and behavior specialist, Joshua Green of BarkSide dog training.

The Why

One of the biggest reasons people forgo treatment/help needed for themselves is the fear of not having anyone to care for their pets while they are away.  According to a study and survey conducted by the University of Michigan,  63% of participants have experienced challenges of finding care for their pets while being hospitalized, and/or personally knew someone who has had the same challenge.

People face similar challenging decisions when trying to decide on seeking behavioral health, surgeries with post-op care, leaving domestic violence situations, and temporary homelessness.

How We Will Help

There are not many programs that offer long-term safeholds, as many shelters and rescues across the US are full and stretched-thin. We plan to be a resource to people in our community who may be facing similar crises. While they are getting the help they need, we will temporarily care for their animals and reunite them together. This keeps their pets from entering shelters and can alleviate some strain that other resources may be feeling in our community.

Why This Cause Means So Much to Us

We know how much it means to have a pet in your life. Our pets bring us so much love and companionship, and we would do anything for them because they are our family! Because of this, we may selflessly make decisions that are better for them but not for us. We want to give our community the opportunity to do what it takes to better themselves while knowing their family is being cared for too.
